CHALLENGE TYRES CYCLOCROSS SERIES – 31st August – Nundah Crit Track

After 3 weeks of rain I decided that it would be a good idea to head north and go up to race the final round of the QLD CX series in Nundah. Lucky for me I have family up there so I got to hang out at their house which is just 30 seconds from the race site.

After arriving early on the Sunday morning for the race I built my bike and headed down to have a look at the track and do a few laps to get an idea of where the course goes. The temperature was starting to heat up and I felt like I was getting burnt so I headed home for some lunch and would come down and watch the start of B grade.

Lucky for me I had done few practice laps before the B grade race start and as I was rolling around my dad came up and told me that the rest of A grade was now racing B grade so I made my way over to the start line and slid my way through to the front to stay out of trouble.

The whistle went and we were off and racing I had a slow start not getting a good clip in but I made up a couple of places on the long open tarred straight. I came into the first corner in second sitting quite easy and tried to move around the outside of the rider in front but he just kept moving wider trying to block me a little so I just sat back and then as soon as we came out of the tight corners I stepped on the gears and opened an immediate gap. At the end of the long straight I had a sizable lead and hopped the small barrier at speed which a lot of the other riders weren’t use to doing.

I opened up a gap and rode at my own pace trying to keep the heart rate up and not make any little mistakes that could cause me to crash.  40 minutes to the finish where I took the win just one week ahead of heading over to the world renowned Cross Vegas. It was nice to race an open dry course that had some good obstacles and it was even better that I felt good and had strong legs doings so.

Check out the Coach Jeff CX Podcast for the race.

Now to fly back home on Monday morning and go straight back to work before flying out next Monday in preparation for Cross Vegas.
