Yesterday the NKC – Lexus cycling team headed up to the central division club championship’s at Wooten sporting our new Bemme kit and new rider Guy Brown. The championships road race was only 59km so it meant that it would be on from the start. Mick Curran and myself swapped of turns for the first 10km until the wining break was formed on the finishing hill. Sam Layzell attacked taking another 4 rider with him and leaving myself and about 20 other rider in the main bunch.
About 5km was the main climb on the course and I decided to try and move across the gap by myself. I rode off the front of the main bunch and caught Mick Curran and Glen Stojino. The three of us swapped off turns and caught up to the leading group with about 25km to go where the new recruit guy brown attacked the group trying to crack any riders that weren’t part of the team. Soon enough the pace was lifted and it was only Sam Nick and myself and I found the pace getting harder and harder to wards the top where I started to lose about 30meters. We turned at the top of the climb and I descended onto the back of the leading two where we swapped of turns til about 10km to go where about seven riders worked together to bridge the gap.
Coming into the final K’s Sam and myself tried a number of attacks trying to get away but It was too little too late. Sam when with about 1km to go on the final climb as I sat in the bunch waiting parentally to go with about 300 meter to go Nick Yallarous attacked and I tried to follow and very quickly he passed Sam and when on to take the win with Sam and Myself in second and third.
