Last weekend was the first round of the NSW All Mountain Series held at Ourimbah state forest. It was a dry and dusty course using some of the DH track before climbing onto the XC course down to the finish. The practice started at 9am when i jumped in the shuttle bus and headed up the hill to have a look at the course. My first run was loose not knowing any of the course, lines of having ridden the giant anthem 29er that Dallas from Breakaway Cycles had set up for me.
About ten runs later i was hitting all the jumps and getting into the swing of things and ready to do my race run. I started fast and made it half way down when my front elixir break failed and the leaver just pulled into the bars that left me going way to fast into a corner and sliding out onto rocks and trees.
The final timed run I nailed the top section hitting all the lines fast and clearing all the jumps. I used the dropper seat post sop that I could move around more freely and make it easier to corner. Up the climb I pushed a hard gear and held pace over the top and into the final section of the XC course where it is very fast. The final rocky section I jumped over and didn’t think of it but it was a much faster way to attach the section and the final sprint to the line up a small hill was a leg burner.
In the end I was beaten by two local riders that obviously knew the course inside out but it was fun to do something different other then the road on XC. Special thanks to the organisers/volunteers and Dallas at Breakaway Cycles for setting up an awesome ride for me.
